Ideal Vacuum Cube Conductance Limiting Coupler Kit Joins Two 6 x 6 in. Cube Frame Faces, Includes Hardware and Seals
Ideal Vacuum Cube Conductance Limiting Coupler Kit Joins Two 6 x 6 in. Cube Frame Faces, Includes Hardware and Seals.
This 6 x 6” Cube conductance limiting coupler kit allows two Cube frames to be tightly joined face-to-face on their 6 x 6” faces with a conductance-limiting orifice between them. A diagram of how to use this coupler is shown as the second image above.
This kit consists of a 6061-T6 aluminum Cube conductance limiting frame coupler with two O-rings, several 304L stainless steel barrel type, coupling draw bolts, and the hardware and seal needed to mount a conductance limiting orifice insert plate. The frame coupler is sandwiched between the two Cube frames and acts just like a flange centering ring. The coupler makes the seal between the two Cube frames and uses the patented Ideal Vacuum Taper-Seal™ design. The draw bolts rigidly clamp the two Cube frames together.
The frame coupler has a full orifice diameter of 2 inches. Restrictive inserts are available with orifices of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm diameter. These smaller orifices greatly restrict the flow of gas between the two coupled vacuum chambers.
This coupler kit combined with an orifice plate allows two chambers to be held at different vacuum levels with a slow flow of gas between them. Due to the long path length of the orifice relative to the orifice diameter, the gas exits the lower pressure side as a tightly focused beam. Applications include calibration of precision valves and flowmeters, residual gas analysis, and molecular beam spectroscopy.

The Ideal Vacuum CubeTM is a unique, modular, light weight, chamber system, capable of high vacuum to 1 x 10-7 Torr. The Cube system is conceived to enable creativity and design flexibility in vacuum chamber system construction and limited only by your imagination.
The core of an Ideal Vacuum Cube modular chamber system is the Cube frame, machined from a single block of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy and reinforced with stainless steel threaded inserts. Many basic frame configurations are available and multiple Cubes can be joined together to create a virtually unlimited variety of long or odd-shaped chamber shapes. The Cube’s light weight construction makes it easy to transport around the lab or mounted to an optical table.
Cube plates are mounted with screws to each side of the Cube frame and sealed using our patented Taper-SealTM design, which provides protection of vacuum sealing surfaces and O-rings from damage or contamination.
An extensive number of interchangeable Cube plates are available and single or multiple plates can be swapped easily when chamber reconfiguration is needed. Plates are available with single and multiple port KF, CF, and ISO flanged plates for connections and feedthroughs, viewing windows and doors, and a variety of specialty plates for thermal and optical experiments. Most plates include an optical breadboard with 1/4-20 mounting threads spaced on a 1” x 1” standard grid on the plate’s vacuum side for fastening hardware and test objects. Plates may also have mounting threads on the exterior side for mounting accessories. Plates are typically machined from aluminum and receive a blue powder-coated outside finish which makes them both attractive and durable.
The modular nature of the Ideal Vacuum Cube allows the designer to configure a chamber to their unique requirements and reconfigure it at any time – all without the cost, weight, time, and limitations of an application-specific welded chamber.
