SMA (SubMiniature version A) connectors are semi-precision coaxial RF connectors developed in the 1960s as a minimal connector interface for coaxial cable with a screw-type coupling mechanism. The connector has a 50 Ω impedance and have weldable 0.495 in. diameter stainless steel adapter. Coaxial is the description for electrical feedthroughs with parallel and concentric conductor paths, and with the inner most conductor path electrically isolated from the vacuum flange. Grounded Shield versions have one isolated path, and Floating Shield versions have two. Coaxial feedthroughs are single-ended or double-ended, and most types include air-side connectors. The multimode step-index fiber has a low OH, Ø100 µm core, is capable of transmitting 1 W of optical power in the wavelength range of 400 - 2400 nm. The fiber has a numerical aperture (NA) of 0.22 and is equipped with standard SMA-905 connections on both the vacuum and air sides. Two stainless-steel SMA caps are included with every fiber optic feedthrough to protect the fiber optic faces from contact and contamination. Conflat (CF) flanges are normally used for processes requiring ultra high vacuum pressures, down to 10 Torr, and are typically sealed with soft metalic copper gaskets.
